Mitch's childhood dream of driving an ice cream truck was vetoed by his mother, so he instead got a PhD in clinical psychology and researched aspects of our peer relationships, such as popularity, friendships, peer influence, peer victimization, and online interactions. Mitch has published over 250 scientific manuscripts and 12 books, served as the Director of Clinical Psychology first at Yale and then at UNC Chapel Hill. He was appointed the Chief Science Officer and then Chief of Psychology at the American Psychological Association. Mitch now regularly advises/consults with numerous domestic and international government agencies, nonprofits, and the entertainment industry. He's frequently been featured as an expert in psychological science within hundreds of media appearances around the world in outlets such as The New York Times, NPR, 60 Minutes, the Times (UK), and CNN, ABC, CBS, and NBC, and as a repeat witness testifying before the US Senate.
